Emmanuele Panzarini

Provisional title: Alphabet

Materials: mobile phone, photographic prints, frames

Idea: to show the diversity of London by photographing, day by day, the 26 letters of the alphabet in the public arena. From shop signs to car number plates, from street names to slogans on shopping bags, from road signs to posters.

Meaning: Unlike the Italian alphabet which has 21 letters the English alphabet has 26. Generally, an alphabet is a writing system whose symbols represent the sounds of a language. Alphabets are amongst the most common systems in the world. My photographic project Alphabet will show that, despite cultural, social and linguistic differences, the alphabet is the basic tool which allows us to develop relationships and share values in an open, international city like London.

Development: The project is designed to be a "work in progress" - one photograph per day until the end of the residency, culminating in the final show of the 26 framed photographs.

By its nature, the project is a perfect fit for social media. The photo of the day will be posted on Instagram and Facebook with the express aim of getting other people involved in the project. People who might have interesting ideas about unusual spots in the city where lettering can be found.

Exhibition: the exhibition will consist of the development of the work day by day inside the artist's apartment and finally, at the end of the residency, the framed images will be sold at the Private View.
