On Saturday, 28th of October 2017, Art Apartments presented the works by three Italian artists, winners of our first Art Residency – London is Open.

The artists are Anna Icardi, from Chiavari, Beatrice Zagato, from Padua, and Antonio Brandimarte, from Roseto degli Abruzzi. They spent the month of October 2017 in London, working on the topic London is Open.

Anna Icardi mixed indoor and outdoor, creating a pictorial fantasia echoing the painted exterior. Beatrice Zagato created a bridge between cultures, working together with the English street artist Steve McCracken. Antonio Brandimarte took his inspiration from the English travellers who did the Grand Tour of Italy in the 17th and 18th centuries.

The artists have been selected among 60 Italian artists who applied for the residency. The residency has been funded by online fundraising on the crowdfunding platform BeArt. Backers decided the winners by voting on the 15 artists selected by a jury, which included the director of the Estorick Collecton of Modern Italian Art, Roberta Cremoncini.

The event took place the evening of Saturday 28th of October 2017 in a Chelsea flat, with catering by Italian chef Andrea Racalbuto. The soprano Luciana Di Bella and the singer Robbie Chard sang during the evening.
